Centennial Lag Presidents Accept Acanthus-carved Gifts from Fellesraad

L-R Jan Heusinkveld of Hadeland Lag, Sandra Henrickson of Landingslag, and Helen Buche of Toten Lag and Marilyn Somdahl, Fellesraad president.
Among the historical firsts of the 7-Lag Stevne held this July in Winona was the awarding of gifts to three of the seven bygdelag, Hadeland, Toten, and Landingslag. Each of these Oppland fylke bygdelag celebrated 100th year lag anniversaries. The national council of bgdelag commissioned Becky Lusk, a Vesterheim Gold Medal wood carver, to create and decorate the gift plates. Presenting the gifts was the Fellesraad president.

Middelalderbrev fra Ringerike, 1263-1570

Bjøn-Geirr Harson led the work on the book, which came into being on the initiative of Thorleif Solberg,. The professors, Eyvind Fjeld Halvorsen and Magnus Rindal, were editors. Others involved were Margit harsson and Maria Bratlie.

The book deals with original texts from early letters and sources where the Old Norse language is not discernable to most modern readers of Norwegian today. It uses lovely pictures taken in October 2009 by B. Harsson and a map showing placement of farms. The index has about 1600 people and place names connected to Ringerike.

The RDD lag purchased this book at the Winona stevne along with Gunnar Bakken's bygdebok, Hole, Volume I.

TUSEN TAKK FOR GIFTS FROM MUNICPALITIES IN NORWAY

Our sincere thanks go to our friends in Norway who have been sending periodicals to Ringerike Drammens District Lag. Most of these publications are now to be found at the Somdahl residence, where they are mailed and housed between stevner.

Many arrive with warm greetings enclosed just before Christmas from the mailers.! But the lag regulary receives Rundt om Drammen, a quarterly publication; likewise, we receive Dalen vå, also a quarterly, from the Soknedalen local history organization in that part of Ringerike. Gamle Modum is an annual publication we have received for may years and the Ringeike Slektshistorielag publishes Hringariki for its members twice a year. We also have many year of the annual Ringerike, published by the museum, the youth lag and the historielag in that district.

Our periodical holdings for the other areas are a bit sporadic, but include many Eikerminne yearbooks, Det var denti" from Lier, and a few others. The lag is appreciative for all of them!

Some articles will be translated into English for our readers. They nourish us from the beginings of our Norwegian roots and heritage into the present day on both sides of the ocean.
